The 2018 Texas Native American Law Conference is scheduled for Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Texas Law Center, 1414 Colorado Street, Austin, Texas.

The 2018 Texas Native American Law Conference is scheduled for Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Texas Law Center, 1414 Colorado Street, Austin, Texas.

The 2018 Conference will present topics involving Native American Law, including “Eagles, Feathers and Spiritual Birds: Native American Spirituality and the Law” and the Indian Child Welfare Act. Other topics of interest will be addressed as well.

The Conference will feature Bill Voelker and Troy, the Co-Directors of Sia, the Comanche Nation Ethno-Ornithological Initiative, and their Spiritual Birds, Nuepi, a male Golden Eagle, and Wakiya, a White Medicine Bird (a rare white red-tailed hawk revered by the Comanche and other Native Americans).

The Conference will also include presentations by the Chickasaw Nation Stomp Dance Troupe, Chickasaw flutist Jesse Lindsey and the Eagle Point Singers, as part of the Section’s traditional Honoring Ceremony, with Native American singing, dancing and drumming.
